Major Hepatitis C Scare.... many HCV patients use insulin pens Rep. Brian Higgins, D-N.Y. asks VA Secretary Eric Shinseki, "Is this situation isolated to the VA Medical Center in Buffalo or is it reflective of a systemic problem in patient labeling that has endangered veterans throughout the VA healthcare system?" Officials said it also may have been used incorrectly at Fort Polk’s Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital in Louisiana, where 15 or fewer patients were potentially affected.

Possible reuse of insulin pen prompts medical scare BY RIDGELY OCHS | Nassau University Medical Center orThe East Meadow hospital. concerned about possible reuse of insulin pens in more than one patient, said Wednesday it will be sending letters to up to 185 diabetes patients, urging them to be tested for hepatitis C, hepatitis B and HIV.

routine pharmacy inspection revealed the problem last Nov. 1, when the insulin pens were discovered in supply carts without patient labels on them, thereby indicating that they may have been reused, the VA memo said. The local veterans hospital “recently discovered that in some cases, insulin pens were not labeled for individual patients,” said Evangeline Conley, a spokeswoman for the hospital. “Although the pen needles were always changed, an insulin pen may have been used on more than one patient.“Once this was identified, immediate action was taken to ensure the insulin pens were labeled and only used according to pharmaceutical guidelines. The hospital immediately changed its procedures to prevent insulin pens from

VA hospital began using the insulin pens to deliver insulin to diabetic patients on Oct. 19, 2010, and the misuse of the pens appears to have begun on that very same day,

Insulin pen - Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Warning

No they didn't have the technology to my knowledge back then for blood draw... could be wrong on that ... plus the cost to test blood is why urine is used. Always remember the benefit of the doubt is in your favor. Wow, you worked so hard to stay clean. What happened would be terrifying, especially for a young person who visited the underworld... Good for you getting clean, and if you think about it, making Squad leader is of good character to overcome that. More credit to your character James. Many men have trouble urinating on demand. That's a fact in your favor also. I think you have an interesting case. I remember those days of Nixon's Drug War while CIA was handing out Crack to the poor youth. What a perfect way to cover their evil way when it came to processing blood products for the troops. Vaccines used blood products. I'm not sure your history after service or what you have said to the vA so far... But with your statement above and maybe you know of another that joined this happened to? check out the local VFW etc. I would consult NOD and Harry... and be sure to ask about service connection due to aggregation of a pre-existing condition... don't forget to get your service med rec

Reminder folks... petitions that collect personal info must be pre-approved

We didn't know at the time why he was hanging around... never posted... As soon as I saw the movie knew what's up. Scary stuff...
